Some final news etc.?

Stuff I'm doing and other things that caught my attention

Hello folks

This is my very last newsletter… on Substack! If you want to know why, check out my LinkedIn post.

In other news, I finished my jigsaw! I know you’ve been dying to know how I’ve been getting on with it.

And now for the rest of the newsletter…

Some thoughts on…

not getting worried about how your work will be received. There’s a new documentary about Gene Wilder. I can’t wait to watch it. Here’s a quote from a recent Guardian article that really resonated:

‘What difference will it make? If they pan the film, so what? Big deal! You made it, it’s finished, it’s over. Be proud of it.’

I love that.

We never know how the work we create will be received. And I guess it doesn’t really matter, as long as we’ve made something we’re proud of, that’s the main thing. Right?

Another gem from the article was finding out that Wilder chose his second name because he wanted to be ‘wilder’.

Somewhere to catch me, if you can…

I’m doing a spot of poeting back in Newcastle. It’s going to be a bit of a nostalgia fest for me, I haven’t read alongside some of these good people in aaaages. If you fancy coming along click the link to find out more. It’s only a fiver in.

Something else that caught my attention…

As ever, here’s something I feel glad to have stumbled across or something that has surprised me in some way. This came via Duncan Yellowlees’ newsletter on academic presenting. The theme of his newsletter was that you don’t have to use slides, or run with the crowd, to share knowledge. You can be playful. You can be entirely, exactly you. Watch how Bobby McFerrin does it, it’s gorgeous.

That’s all from me for now. Thanks for reading.
