July Poet·ings

Stuff I'm doing and other things that caught my attention

Poet·ings

Hey folks!

Well, Glastonbury Festival came and went and what an experience that was! I’m not sure it’s an experience I would be keen to repeat (too much litter and horrendously smelly courtesy of the long drop toilets) but I saw some amazing musicians/bands and I met some wonderful poets in the Poetry&Words tent. Favourite gigs? Fontaines DC, Janelle Monae and Kneecap.

Some thoughts on… feeling inadequate

I almost didn’t send out a newsletter this month. I’ve been down in the doldrums and couldn’t shake the feeling that I don’t have anything to say that’s worth saying. As July has worn on, the terrifying craziness of the world at large and the relentlessness of the minor traumas that plague everyday life have done little to change that feeling. So the remedy? I’ll keep this edition super short and wait for the feelings of inadequacy to pass, as all things must.

Somewhere to catch me, if you can…

No gigs coming up for me until the autumn so here’s a couple of alternative ways to enjoy my poems.

Something else that caught my attention… The Poetry Exchange

I’m not doing The Sealey Challenge myself this August. I’m due to submit my PhD thesis in November and I have sooooooooo much writing and coding still to do, so I don’t need any additional excuses to procrastinate. Instead, I’m going to dip in and out of The Poetry Exchange Podcast to make sure I still have plenty of poetry in my life.

The Poetry Exchange is a beautiful project created by Fiona Bennett and it’s a real gift to the world. Fiona is a rare human, one who just radiates good energy and The Poetry Exchange really encapsulates that.

Whether you take up the Sealey Challenge or you find other ways to fill your August with poetry, I hope the month treats you well.

That’s all from me for now. Thanks for reading.
